A tender and deeply sentimental reflection of loss, and the yearning for a loved one taken too soon.
In the fields of our love
A pomegranate tree bleeds its blossoms in yearning to see you.
Your soul,
the one that leaves you every spring,
falls asleep upon its trunk.
I am overwhelmed by the sharpness of thorny fields
and the millstone of memories
that possesses the remnants within my chest—
a possession
so real,
so sincere,
so warm and tender.
This possession…
She leaves, she leaves,
She does not deny us,
nor does she despair of us,
but she leaves,
drifting away from us.
My eyes compose a symphony of love
dedicated to the storms of seas
that cling to one of its harbors,
lose their way at the dock of freedom,
break their chains—
and I lose her.

Dana Flaifl is a nineteen-year-old poet in Gaza who dreams of a simple, safe life where she can achieve her dreams.
She writes: “Last year, I was supposed to finish high school and begin university. But war stole my father, leaving the six of us without our moon. All I have left is writing—and through it, I resist."
Some of Dana's poems have been translated and published in Spanish, and she has two collections of poetry in Italian and French. Her poems have appeared in Al-Yamamah and Arab Lit & Arab Lit Quarterly

about the narrator
Caterina Murino is an Italian actress known for her roles in the James Bond film Casino Royale (2006), St Trinian's (2007), and Voice From The Stone (2017), as well as a host of successful French and Italian film and TV releases. Caterina is a European Golden Globe winner.
When she isn't filming, Caterina is an Ambassador for Amref Health Africa, an organisation working across 35 countries to provide healthcare to marginalised communities. Alongside Humanitarian causes, Caterina promotes the adoption of homeless cats and dogs, sharing individual cases and projects on her social media feed.
Caterina's most recent performance was on stage this year as the protagonist in Carlo Goldoni's play La Vedova Scaltra (The Shrewd Widow).
